New York posted a 139.1 offensive rating against Philadelphia's 99.0. Jalen Brunson liquidated the matchup with 35 points on 12/18 from the floor and 8/8 at the line, finishing +27 across 27 minutes. Mikal Bridges (17), OG Anunoby (18), and Karl-Anthony Towns (17) added supporting volume, with NYK going 51.4% from three on 37 attempts and 72.3% from inside the arc.
Philadelphia never punched through. Embiid finished 3/11 for 14 points on a -24, Tyrese Maxey shot 3/9 for 13 on a -28, and the Sixers gave up 19 turnovers for 25 NYK points off turnovers. Bench scoring went 42 for the Knicks and 30 for Philadelphia — a +12 gap, with Josh Hart adding eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals on a +24 swing in 24 minutes. ESPN Insights reported New York has now led by 30 or more in three consecutive playoff games — the only team in the play-by-play era (since 1997-98) to do so.
Victim: Philadelphia's rotation. The Sixers closed Game 7 in Boston late Sunday and tipped off Game 1 at 8:00 PM ET Monday, against a Knicks squad that last played April 30. The fatigue hit inside the arc — PHI shot 44.2% on twos against NYK's 72.3%, and Embiid's 27.3% FG suggested the hip soreness reported pre-series is real.
Beneficiary: Madison Square Garden home math. New York's 39-point margin and +12 bench gap give them a wide cushion through one game, and Game 2 returns to MSG before the series moves to Philadelphia.
Standings shift: Bravsen model — NYK series win probability 78% post-Game-1, up from 64% pre-tip (+14 swing). Probability basis: Embiid TS% drop, +12 bench gap, NYK three-point profile, MSG home-court adjustment, rest differential.
Next Trigger: Game 2, Wed May 6, 7:00 PM ET, Madison Square Garden. If Embiid does not lift his TS% above 60% on the second leg of a one-day-rest sequence, the series compresses to a Friday Game 3 elimination spiral at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Next: Game 2 Wed May 6 7:00 PM ET at Madison Square Garden
