The New Format: A Single League Table
Since the 2024/25 season, the competition has switched to a so-called "Swiss model." Instead of eight groups of four, all 36 clubs play in a single league table — the one shown on this page. Each club plays 8 league-phase matches against eight different opponents (four home, four away), determined by a seeding-based draw rather than random group allocation.
How to Read the Table
"P" is matches played, "W" wins, "D" draws, "L" losses. "Goals" shows goals scored versus conceded, and points in the final column determine each team's ranking. A win is worth 3 points, a draw 1, and a loss 0.
How the Knockout Playoff Works
When the league phase ends, the top 8 teams advance directly to the round of 16. Clubs finishing 9th to 24th play an additional two-legged playoff round for the remaining knockout spots, with the higher-placed team seeded as the "away" team in the first leg. Clubs finishing 25th to 36th are eliminated from Europe or drop into the Europa League, depending on that season's regulations.

Real Madrid holds the competition record with 15 titles, the most recent coming in 2024. AC Milan has won it seven times, and Liverpool and Bayern Munich six each.
