Conference Tables and How to Read Them

Standings are organised separately by Eastern and Western Conference rather than as one combined national table. Each conference table shows GP (games played), W (wins), L (losses) and D (draws), followed by GF, GA, GD and Pts. Ties are broken first by total wins, then goal difference, then goals scored — MLS does not use head-to-head record as its primary tiebreaker.

The Playoff System

The top nine clubs in each conference, eighteen teams across the league, qualify for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The top seven seeds in each conference advance directly to a best-of-three Round One series, while the eighth and ninth seeds in each conference first meet in a single-elimination wild card match to determine who joins them. From the conference semifinals onward, every round is single-elimination, hosted by the higher seed, culminating in single-elimination Conference Finals and then the MLS Cup final, hosted by whichever finalist earned the better regular-season record.
